There's No Place Like Home

What an ordeal we went through to return to Fresno! Our flight was scheduled to leave Edmonton last Tuesday evening at 6pm. We got there at about 4:30pm to make sure we'd have enough time to go through customs. Upon checking in, we discovered that our flight was delayed 2 hours because our plane had mechanical problems. Once checked in, you can't turn back- we had to proceed to customs. That meant we had to stay at the airport until 8pm. We found a section to claim as our own and let the kids run around. Thankfully, they sent a different plane instead of the one that had mechanical problems! Due to our delay, we missed our connection from Seattle to San Jose. Immediately upon landing in Seattle, we had to line up to get a hotel voucher to stay overnight. Of course it wasn't until we were getting our luggage that we noticed an error- we had to go get back in line. This caused us to miss our shuttle to the hotel, which only ran every half hour. We were relieved when we finally got into our hotel room, but then we had to wait some more for a crib for Jeremy, and extra sheets and blankets for Grace. Our kids didn't go to bed until 11pm! They were still on "mountain time," so it was actually more like midnight. It was such a crazy evening!

The next morning, we woke up plenty early to return to the airport. This time, there were no problems and we flew back to San Jose. Our friend, Julie, picked us up. We left our car at their home while we were gone, and after going to get it, we finally headed for Fresno!

It was sooooooooo nice to be home! We unloaded our luggage, checked our plants, looked for our cat, and went through our mail. The kids pulled out every toy they owned, so glad to see them again. It was nice to relax in our own space. Of course that didn't last!
