Happy Halloween

Considering how much our kids have loved The Lego Movie, it only made sense that for Halloween this year, they wanted to dress up as the characters, Emmet and Wyldstyle.

As with every year, we headed to our church's Fall Carnival and met up with friends there.  I actually didn't even get a picture of Grace because we let her walk around with her friends.

I'm a sucker for cotton candy!

After spending some time at church, we take the kids trick-or-treating with the Wiens family in the neighborhood.  This year, the weather was crazy!  It was chilly and very windy, and it also rained off and on.  We decided to take our chances and go to at least a handful of homes.
This last picture was taken as it started to pour!  We were running back to our cars immediately afterwards!

Happy 10th Birthday, Grace!

It's tradition! We visit the pumpkin patch every year on Grace's birthday.  Here's a picture of her first birthday and of her 10th birthday!

For Grace's birthday dinner, she chose BJs because she loves the ribs.  The waiter brought out a birthday pizookie for her dessert.
Happy 10th birthday to our sweet Bubba!

Afterschool Dance Performance

Jeremy is a part of Harvest's afterschool program and he loves it.  One of the things he's been a part of is the dance.  They recently had their first performance of the year. Unfortunately, the video is too long for me to post!  He did a great job, though!  The dance was choreographed to the song "Fire" from Camp Rock 2.

Civil War Reenactment

In all the years we've lived here, and despite the fact that Jason teaches history, we have never been to Fresno's Civil War Reenactment, held at Kearney Park every year.  Grace's class went this year on a field trip and her teacher gave away free weekend passes.  We couldn't give up this opportunity to see living history!
 Washing clothes the old-fashioned way!
 Shaking buttermilk to make butter
We watched demonstrations of how to make brooms and weaving from dog hair

We went through the encampments and saw different tents set up for different purposes.

Then it came time for the actual battle reenactment on the field.  The cannons were so loud, you could feel the vibration ring throughout your body.

I doubt this is something we'd do every year, but it was definitely worth the experience!

Jeremy and the Gibson Black Fire

This year, we decided to switch soccer clubs because last year was so disorganized.  Gibson is actually a school closer to our home, and Jeremy is having an awesome season.  Jason agreed to help with coaching and is also enjoying it.  This season has been so much fun to watch!  It is more competitive and our head coach, Thea, is teaching the boys a lot of skills during practices.  She makes it fun but has raised expectations.  There are five players on the field at one time (forwards, center, defense) but there is no goalie.  Thea has been moving the players around so they get experience in each position.
 #7 because I'm 7!

Jeremy's 7th Birthday

Jeremy is obsessed with Legos, so it made perfect sense that his birthday would be lego-themed.  He was very specific about what he wanted for his party: he loved our backyard movie night so much that he wanted to show The Lego Movie, to have tacos (Taco Tuesdays are in the movie), a pinata, and he wanted specific movie snacks to munch on.

I was inspired by Pinterest to make his cake but was so disappointed by how it turned out that I refused to serve it.  Jason has a lot of cake to eat this upcoming week!
This was Plan B, which looked 100 times better than what I came up with!

Movie snacks, as requested by the birthday boy
Jeremy also wanted a lego pinata- luckily, that was easier to make.  We filled it with too many things though, that Jason had to come up with a back up plan for it to be strong enough to hang on our tree.

Almost every boy gave him a lego set.  This one was from Grandma.
Despite all the sugar they had, the boys did great and Jeremy had an awesome time! A huge thank you to Mrs. Karen, Grandma, Uncle Dan, and Auntie Jen for joining us!

On Jeremy's actual birthday, he got to choose where he wanted to go for his birthday dinner.  He chose California Pizza Kitchen.  We got our "usual" waiter, who treated Jeremy to a special birthday treat.

Happy 7th Birthday, Bear!
